What is Giving Tuesday? When is Giving Tuesday in 2023?
Giving Tuesday falls on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023. This global generosity movement aims to inspire people to think about others and use their power to support causes in their local community and around the world. This day was founded back in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y along with the United Nations Foundation, encouraging people to do good and give back during the holidays. There are many things you can do on this day to support local and national causes, such as donate funds or give your time to helping organizations. No matter what your personal circumstances are, we can all try to find a way to support others on this day.
GivingTuesday is an organization that encourages generosity to show solidarity for the people in the world around us. Not only do they organize events on this day, but they also encourage people with year-round activities within 75 different countries. A network of local leaders work to support community foundations, fundraisers, social activities, and in the US alone, there are 240 GivingTuesday communities.
Support Non-Profits in Central Texas on Giving Tuesday
If you are wondering who you can support on Giving Tuesday in the Central Texas area, then we’re here to share a few local charities and foundations that are always looking for support from residents of Texas.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas
Founded in 1985, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas works to provide lodging and services to families with children who are injured or critically ill. They know how much of a challenge this can be to families and thanks to the generous support of volunteers and donations they have helped over 17,000 families in the area to this date. The charity has many different resources in place, all of which support families and children during the challenges they are facing to give a boost to their quality of life.
Central Texas Youth Services
Central Texas Youth Services works to offer development opportunities for children, youth and families who come from troubled situations. They believe that everyone has the potential to go far in life, and with their community-based services, they hope to support others in realizing their full potential. Since 1970, the agency has offered services to the local community, and they continue to expand their offerings to meet the needs of the individuals and families they serve.
Eldred’s Nursery Foundation
Margaret and Robert Chadwick founded Eldred’s Nursery in 2017. On their website, you’ll see that they sell trees, plants, flowers, and shrubs, but what makes this foundation so special is that they offer a job training facility for individuals with disabilities. Individuals and landscapers can support the foundation with their purchases, so if you are looking to enhance your backyard, this foundation is a great cause to support on Giving Tuesday. Their nursery is located in Belton, Texas, where you can visit the team and learn more about their community.
Mission Waco started back in 1978 when Janet and Jimmy Dorrell purchased an old house in North Waco. With their knowledge of incarnational ministry to support them, they believed their calling was to live among the poor and help to share empowerment opportunities with this community. They started by offering clubs for children and teenagers in their home each week, as well as providing assistance to those who were struggling in the local community. The goals of the program are to empower, equip, and engage with the community, helping to create programs that are relationship-based and encourage Texans to get involved in a hands-on way. Your donations or volunteer hours will help to support this cause and empower people to go further in their own lives.
Operation Feeding Temple
Operation Feeding Temple works to support food pantries in the local community. They help to conduct and organize food drives and fundraisers, as well as gathering and storing food and clothing for individuals and families in need. Hunger is a huge concern within the Texas community and something we all need to work together to avoid. Every $1 that’s donated via their site can help to offer a family 2.5 pounds of food. You could even work together with your school or workplace to host a food drive and collect donations this Giving Tuesday.
SHE Will Foundation
For women in the state of Texas who have been through divorce, abuse, unemployment, or depression, it can be extremely isolating and difficult to know who to turn to. The SHE Will Foundation is a non-profit organization which offers crisis intervention and advocacy for women in Texas. They work to support individuals with self-improvement guidance and recovery support with the aim of helping them to get back on their feet and live a life where they can fend for themselves and not feel so alone in the world. Your donations will help them to run all of their programs, which have transformed the lives of many women in the area already.
This Giving Tuesday, take the time to learn about these amazing causes in Texas. All of these foundations and charities are extremely grateful for any donations and volunteers that help them out, allowing them to offer their support and programs to more people each year. While we all have our own busy lives, it’s so important to give back and be grateful for what we have, and volunteering is one of the best ways to do just that. We hope these charities will inspire you to connect with others in your local community this Giving Tuesday.
