What is Giving Tuesday? When is Giving Tuesday in 2023?

Giving Tuesday falls on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023. This global generosity movement aims to inspire people to think about others and use their power to support causes in their local community and around the world. This day was founded back in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y along with the United Nations Foundation, encouraging people to do good and give back during the holidays. There are many things you can do on this day to support local and national causes, such as donate funds or give your time to helping organizations. No matter what your personal circumstances are, we can all try to find a way to support others on this day.

GivingTuesday is an organization that encourages generosity to show solidarity for the people in the world around us. Not only do they organize events on this day, but they also encourage people with year-round activities within 75 different countries. A network of local leaders work to support community foundations, fundraisers, social activities, and in the US alone, there are 240 GivingTuesday communities.

Mission Waco

Website
Mission Waco started back in 1978 when Janet and Jimmy Dorrell purchased an old house in North Waco. With their knowledge of incarnational ministry to support them, they believed their calling was to live among the poor and help to share empowerment opportunities with this community. They started by offering clubs for children and teenagers in their home each week, as well as providing assistance to those who were struggling in the local community. The goals of the program are to empower, equip, and engage with the community, helping to create programs that are relationship-based and encourage Texans to get involved in a hands-on way. Your donations or volunteer hours will help to support this cause and empower people to go further in their own lives.

Operation Feeding Temple

Website

They help to conduct and organize food drives and fundraisers, as well as gathering and storing food and clothing for individuals and families in need. Hunger is a huge concern within the Texas community and something we all need to work together to avoid. Every $1 that’s donated via their site can help to offer a family 2.5 pounds of food. You could even work together with your school or workplace to host a food drive and collect donations this Giving Tuesday.

All of these foundations and charities are extremely grateful for any donations and volunteers that help them out, allowing them to offer their support and programs to more people each year.
