Are you looking for summer activities in Killeen? For children and adults alike, summer can be an opportunity to spend more time together, learn new things, and engage with the community, whether it’s through neighborhood barbecues, trips to the swimming pool, or a concert in town. Here’s the best events for the whole family to look forward to this summer in and around Killeen, and best of all, most of them are free!

Swim

Times: Tue-Thu 11am-5pm, Fri 11am-6:30pm, Sat 10am-6:30pm, Sun 1pm-6:30pm
Location: The Family Aquatics Center at Lions Club Park
Cost: Ages 0-3: Free, Ages 4-16 and Seniors: $5, Adults: $7
Enjoy a dip in the pool at Lions Club Park and Long Branch Pool, open for the summer starting June 1st.

Volunteer

Date: Year round!
Location: Various Locations around Killeen, TX
Cost: Free
Give back to the community and keep the kids active with summer volunteering. In addition to local charities, the city of Killeen advertises volunteering opportunities available on their website.

Learn Local History

Times: Mon-Fri 9am-4pm, Sat 10am-4pm, Sun/Holidays 12pm-4pm
Location: 1st Cavalry Division Museum, Fort Hood, TX
Cost: Free
Engage with not only American history, but Texan history with a tour of Fort Hood’s 1st Cavalry Division Museum. Call ahead and ask about their staff rides, guided tours, and demonstrations of 1800s uniforms, equipment, and a Model 1866 Gatling gun!

Make Art

Times: Tue-Sat 11am-6pm, Sun 1pm-6pm
Location: ARK Pottery Expressions, 882 S Ft Hood St, Killeen, TX
Cost: Varies
People of all ages can have fun and express themselves creatively at arts and crafts stores and events, for instance at ARK Pottery Expressions, where customers buy a piece of pottery and paint it themselves!

Rock Out!

Date: Jun 29 2019, 9am-12pm
Location: Sadowski Field – Support Avenue, Fort Hood, TX
Cost: Free
Join the US Army Child & Youth Services as they host Rockin’ Fest, an event that’s open to the public, with free food while supplies last! Your kids can get their faces painted, enjoy arts & crafts, play games, and rock out to music with a live DJ!
