Since Temple is known for its short cold months and long warm months, it would only be right to give our outdoor activities list first! With nearby lakes, pristine parks, and beautiful scenery, Temple outdoor activities are just outside of the city. Even within the city, there are fun ways to have fun while being outside. Allow your kids to have a positive experience outdoors and in nature by providing them with the opportunities to reconnect outside. You can even take your kids to places you grew up going to as a kid. Whether your kids enjoy reconnecting with nature, playing sports, or playing in the water, Temple has a wide variety of outdoor activities to keep them excited.

 

  • Lions Park

With a water park that is open in the summer months and a beautiful year-round green park to play in, Lions Park provides all the fun that you and the family need! The park is over 100 acres wide with 2 playgrounds, 4 softball fields, 12 picnic tables, 2 BBQ grills, 2 picnic pavilions, a pond, 2-mile bike and hike trail, and a disc golf course. Whether you have all day or only an hour, this park is great for getting in some outdoor fresh air with the family.

  • Downtown Street Art

Looking for a way to get some fresh air in the downtown area? Go for a walk in downtown Temple to take a look at the impressive display of street art. Some of the most popular murals are The Hub Alley Mural, ExtraCo Mural, and the Treno Mural. You can do an i-Spy game of objects in the murals or try to figure out how the mural highlights Temple culture. Regardless of the ages of your kids, they will love seeing how big and spectacular the displays are! Since you are in the downtown area, you can do this activity before or after getting a bite to eat.

If your kids need a way to cool off on a hot day, stop by the Santa Fe Plaza Fountains to run through the splash pad!  Located in the heart of downtown Temple, you and your family can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere created in this plaza. On a hot day, the splash pad will be filled with other kids to play with too. Parents can people-watch from one of the benches or even join in the fountain! Nearby you can visit the Railroad & Heritage Museum, Temple Visitor’s Center, and the Santa Fe Market Trail!
